Unifying Themes
From AP Biology Wiki
The course content in AP Bio can be hierarchically organized into themes, topics, and concepts. Themes are defined as overarching features of biology that apply throughout the curriculum. Topics are the subject areas in biology, and concepts are the most important ideas that form our current understanding of a particular topic.[1]
For example, Photosynthesis is a topic. The idea that membranes are used to create differential electrochemical gradients, and that potential energy can then be converted to work is a key concept associated with the topic of photosynthesis (and cellular respiration, too!)
